Should religious displays on government property be banned?

Should religious displays on government property be banned

Debate and Mock Trial

In the past couple years people have been saying that religious displays on government property should be banned to the point where any sign of any type of Christmas decoration including ornaments, trees, even christmas lights, were offending.  Many people agree with this issue and many people disagree.

My opinion is that religious displays on government property should not be banned because our nation was first founded on religion, we have a freedom of religion, we live in a free country.

Everyone knows that our country was first founded on religion.  All of our founding fathers were christians, this is why we have sayings like “God bless America” and “In God we trust”, even some atheists will admit this.

Also, in our country, we have a freedom of religion.  If people in the government want these decorations up then they have that right.  You have to remember that the freedom of religion law is for freedom.  This law says nothing about our country not being able to support a religion.  Our founding fathers made this law so everyone in America can worship who they want, so that the government isn’t forcing one religion on people.

Lastly, we live in a free country.  There is a reason we left England to come to America!!  It is so that we would not be forced to practice one religion.  By having these displays on government property nobody is forcing this religion on anyone.  It is just a statement of our founding fathers.

Thank you for listening and I hope you take my three reasons into consideration.

Ingredients:

1/2 lb ground sausage (I used sweet Italian)
1/2 lb ground beef
6 Large peppers (I used red, yellow and orange but green is fine too)
1 Clove garlic
1 Onion, chopped
1 Cup cooked rice
1 Can mild Rotel
2 Cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1/2 Tsp salt
1/2 Tsp pepper
Olive oil

Directions:

1. In a large skillet, brown sausage, beef, garlic, and onion in oil.
2. Add the chopped parsley and cooked rice.
3. Stir in Ro-tel and 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese (it will melt, it doesn't matter).
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Cut off the tops of peppers, and trim the bottom so they sit flat in your dish.
6. Chop scrap pepper tops and add to filling (optional, but I did it).
7. Place peppers in baking dish and stuff until full.
8. Drizzle peppers with olive oil.
9. Cover with foil and bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
10. Remove from oven and take off the foil. Use remaining shredded cheese to top peppers, bake uncovered another 15 minutes.

Should we Shut Down Flights to Prevent Ebola?

This is another debate paper I wrote on the raving topic of Ebola.

Why we should Shut Down Flights to Prevent Ebola

I believe that we should shut down all flights from West Africa for three reasons, It would help prevent an Ebola outbreak in America, it would isolate the disease, and it would help eliminate the disease faster.

The first reason we should shut down all flight from West Africa is that it would help prevent an Ebola outbreak in America.  The government’s job is to protect the people of its country, right?
Some believe it to be selfless to shut down flights from needy countries, but I believe it to be necessary.
The second reason we should shut down all flight from West Africa is that it would isolate the sickness.  The only way to fully get rid of a sickness is to isolate it in a small space and treat it there.  You must also find the cause of the problem and treat that too.  If you really care about American and African lives then you would understand that this is the best decision for everyone.  Ebola will only spread if we allow it to.  By restricting air travel from West Africa we are becoming part of the solution, not the problem.

The third reason we should shut down all flight from West Africa is that it will help eliminate the disease faster.  An argument that people make is that we have the medical supplies to treat Ebola here and their supplies are very limited, also Africa only has a handful of hospitals.  This is all true, and a good argument.  But think, I said that we should shut down all flight from West Africa, I did not say that our country couldn’t be part of the solution.  Instead of letting them bring the disease to us, let us bring the medical supplies to them.  This would be a perfect compromise and save many American lives.

In conclusion, I believe that we should shut down flights from West Africa for three reasons, It would help prevent an Ebola outbreak in America, it would isolate the disease, and it would help eliminate the disease faster.  This decision matters to the citizens of America and the people of West Africa because it is their lives at risk.  By making this decision we will be keeping the people of America safe while assisting the Africans in eliminating the disease.

Should Public School Teachers be Armed?

This is one of my favorite debate papers that I have written! :)

Public School Teachers should be Armed

On December 14, 2012, there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  A man name Adam Lanza shot and killed twenty children ages 6 and 7, and eight adults.  Six that worked at the school, his own mother, and last, himself.

I believe that public school teachers should be armed for three reasons.  If teachers were armed, murderers would be less likely to target shootings at schools.  It is the best decision to keep the children safe, and more weapons in the hands of mentally stable, law-abiding, citizens reduces crime.

The first reason we should arm public school teachers is that If teachers were armed, murders would be less likely to target shootings at schools.  Right now, in schools there is not a single weapon that could be used against an enemy!  During shootings, all children can do is sit there and do nothing, besides calling the police the adults don’t do anything either!  If teachers were armed they would at least have a chance to save themselves and some of the children if the murderer were to attack their classroom.

The second reason public school teachers should be armed is that it is the best decision to keep all of the  children safe.  People argue that it is very irresponsible to leave a gun in the hand of the person that you don’t trust.  This argument is invalid because parents already trust teachers to educate their children and practically raise them.  Kids spend more time with teachers than they do their parents and the teachers feel responsible for the children if anything happens to them in their classroom.  Therefore; if a teacher feels more comfortable being armed, then let them have permission to be armed, weather its with a tranquilizer, pepper spray, or even a real gun.

The third reason we should arm public school teachers is that more weapons in the hands of mentally stable, law-abiding, citizens reduces crime.  Why do you think that most shootings happen in schools?  A criminal chooses to shoot people and kids in schools  because they know that most likely no one in the school is armed making it an easy target.  This problem can easy be solved by arming most or even all teachers.

Public school teachers should be armed for three reasons.  If teachers were armed, murderers would be less likely to target shootings at schools.  It is the best decision to keep the children safe, and more weapons in the hands of mentally stable, law-abiding, citizens reduces crime.  This issue matters to the children and the parents of children attending public school because this has to deal with their safety.
